There’s a magic to simplicity. And Repose has that particular elegance that comes from distilling a concept down to its essence. Reductionism often results in ugliness. Here, committed to holding onto aesthetics, the consequence is a perfectly pared down bench that has the functional beauty of a long limb bone. It brings to mind Kubrick’s classic sequence in 2001: A Space Odyssey when a primitive ape throws a bone into the sky, which becomes the shape of a spaceship centuries later. Repose bridges time in the same way, both primal and futuristic, holding both strands together and resulting in something that is simply – perfectly – of the now.
